Here is an afternoon by the TyneBurn on a very cold winter day. There is a feeling of loss and emptiness here. The Park is empty and snow on the ground. Over the course of several hours there wasn’t a single bird that made a noise and only one small airplane flew over. The burn was the sole source of sound and here I have used a combination of the burn ambience with a few featured blips created by the hydrophone.
I have been recording electro magnetic signals using a special sort of radio receiver that makes those signals audible (The Soma Ether). The solo in the middle is a compression of 1 hour’s recording into a 20 second feature. So technically speaking, there was not very much electromagnetic activity at the side of the burn on this occasion. Even my phone didn’t ring.
