I found a spring along a track through a farm on the side of a hill. The water was coming up from the ground into a small pool and running down the hill to the burn. This piece is a literal transcription of the water as it burbled and made noise. Through emphasising features and frequencies, the shape of melody was extracted, and through those notes, the bass part was extracted. The contrast between the melody and bass set the tone for all the other voices to perform. There may be a small amount of interference from myself when I felt nature should have played a slightly different note, but I was just helping things along.
